Ref extrodinaire, Seans, match report
The clouds finally cleared or at least broke up somewhat and the sun began to make an appearance on the Costa Ventosa. A fine group of misfits, whom have never made their parents proud.
Assembled at Polideportivo to once again prove their best hours are well behind them. A late dropout in the form of Dave rabbit caused a last minute reshuffle of the teams.
But our gallant board member and ref extraordinaire manage to balance things out. At least on paper it appeared that way. Blacks started the game a man short or at least minus the Hoover board genius Kevo. Who had been left at the side of the road in Torra Blanca.
Haven’t not read Dave B’s txt about being diseased that morning. Kevo arrived right at kick off and all the was right with the world again for Blacks.
From the kick off Blacks began to move the ball nicely with interplay between Dave Owl, The Hooverboard genius, new girl Colette on the left wing, Ton on the right and The Welsh Wizard.!But cometh the ball, cometh the man, Ian latched on to a ball and gave mad dog Paul in the reds goal no chance.1-0 reds.
Despite the best efforts of Reds and their crack forward line of Bambi, Sonic and Mick the Mayo Scottman. All their efforts ended in failure.
It wasn’t long before Sheffield’s darling Dave the owl had the ball once again in the Reds net. Things were looking ominous for Blacks with H and Big Graham blocking every shot and keeping Reds crafty strike force at bay.
In the 2nd quarter Black playing out from defense, Graham or Steve or H or somebody to Dave owl to Colette back to Dave owl to Kevo who’s shot bamboozled Fish in the Black goal. 3-0 Blacks. By this point in proceedings Mad Dog had entered the field of play and due to his flight of feet, we shall call it. Reds began to get a foothold in the game.
With Terry’s stewardship from center back and Mad Dog speed and Bambi’s positive feed back. Reds were pressing and for a moment Blacks were being pinned in their own half, for at least 30 seconds at a time.
It was during one of the bouts of intense pressure a move started by Fred, who passed to Terry, to Mad Dog to Sean when my Irish dancing lessons from 60 years ago finally paid off. A grass cutter of a shot went through the large non flying Dutch manslaughter legs in goal. 3-1 game on.
Well not exactly within minutes, in their push to get another goal. Reds left Sheffield finest unmarked down field and he buried it past Fred in goal. 4-1 Blacks. In Bambi’s attempts to inspire his teams on to glory . It was noted that most of his utterances of encouragement where coming from behind Big Graham and H in the Blacks defense. Making it difficult to find Reds €5 striker with a pass.
A situation Terry tried to encourage The Bambster to rectify to no avail. But the Bambster did pop up to score a goal and give his side a glimmer of hope. But again Blacks took that hope and threw it against the rocks.
A ball from The Welsh Wizard to Ton who found super striker Ken alone and he make no mistake slotting the ball past Fred in the Reds goal. 5-2 Black. It wasn’t that the Reds didn’t have their opportunities. Between The man who will never be Michael Flatleys understudy, Mad Dogs and the €5 Striker Bambster the three Amigos, ball boys Frank, Mike and Dave got plenty of steps.
Many chance were squandered. With the seconds ticking down Reds won a corner which this reporter took it upon himself to take. H stepped off his line in goals and with the aid of the Welsh Wizards ass or thigh the ball veered into the corned of the goal behind H.
Game ends 5-3 to Blacks. A good game despite the score line. Played in a mostly sporting fashion.
There was one casualty, as it happens. As with most of us on our first game of walking football after years of not playing. Colette suffered a fracture in her left foot.
She says it happened while stretching for a ball. But I believe she may have been trodden on by Bambis size 49’s.
Despite this set back she says she’ll be back in the Autumn for more walking football after she recovers. Get well soon Colette.
Colins Corner
Monday brought about an evenly matched 7 aside with Bristol Paul returning with his lethal shooting prowess, one to watch therefore.
The first quarter was a goalless affair, both teams passing the ball around with confidence but without troubling either keeper.
The deadlock was eventually broken when Mick received the ball and poked it between keeper Steve’s legs. 1-0 Blacks
The score was doubled with a well taken goal by Maj 2-0 Blacks
Blacks were looking comfortable Prak and Colin were marshaling Paul whilst Darren was holding the ball up well in midfield and laying of to Mick, Alvin and Maj with Daz relatively untroubled in goal
Reds meanwhile with Steve in goal continuously ordering around his troops sometimes at odds with Keith who also talks a good game were linking Dave 🚖 with Henning, Rick and Paul themselves trying to release Jim.
Out of nowhere Henning is attacking with the ball and unleashes an unstoppable shot from distance 2-1
Another goal from Mick and a reply from Keith has us at 3-2 by half-time
Alvin and Keith who’d already been warned off each other were both sin binned as they tussled for the ball.
The game was getting unruly with John having to step in numerous times with tackling, over head height balls and contact becoming the norm.
Into the forth quarter and Daz was replaced in goal by Alvin
One of his first jobs was to save a Paul penalty after Colin was adjudged to have encroached much to his disagreement.
With Daz marauding on the right he worked the ball to Darren who scored 4-2 Blacks
A loose ball at the back presented the ball to Henning who scored his second and an inevitable thunderbolt from Paul had the scores level
The game was still very niggly and the final goal came fortuitously with a saved shot bouncing off of Majs chest into the net and blacks running out 5-4 winners
